The Intergenerational Center at Temple University

What's New

One of the center's newest endeavors is Five & Fit - a pilot project designed to prevent early childhood obesity by mobilizing older adults (age 55+) from the community in changing the behaviors of parents, family members and formal caregivers related to healthy food choices, regular exercise and other behaviors deemed important in the prevention of early obesity.  Mobilizing older adults to influence the circle of caregivers that surround young children and impact the community in which they live is a unique approach that is a win-win-win for all involved.  For more informations, contact:  Yvonne Thompson-Friend, Project Coordinator via e-mail at ytfriend53@yahoo.com or phone at (215) 844-4744  or Andrea Taylor, Training Director, via e-mail at ataylor@temple.edu or phone at (215) 204-6708.

GEARUP is a national education enrichment program that helps low income students prepare to enter and succeed in 2-year and 4-year colleges.  Coordinated by the Intergenerational Center at Temple's College of Health Professions, in partnership with the College of Science & Technology's TU Teach program, the Temple GEARUP Saturday Academy is an exclusive opportunity for 6th and 7th grade GEARUP students to get engaged in math by building and competing in ROBOTICS! The program takes place on Temple's campus at the Tuttleman Learning Center (13th & Montgomery). While our name has changed, our mission has not.  We are committed to bringing generations together to address critical social concerns and creating opportunities for lifelong civic engagement.  We will be launching a new interactive website that will highlight our model intergenerational programs, national and local training opportunities, and cutting-edge research.
